Q: Who can I send to Amberwing?

A: Amberwing behavioral health programs serve young people birth to 18 who need help in learning to cope with emotional and behavioral problems which are interfering with their functioning at home, school and in the community.

The Amberwing Substance Use program serves teens ages 12-18 who are experiencing continuous and progressive use of chemicals with increased tolerance.

Finally, our Intensive Young Adult program serves people 18-25 who are experiencing acute mental illness and may otherwise be unable to attend to their daily activities.

Q: What diagnoses do they treat?

A: Amberwing treats a variety of childhood and young adult psychiatric diagnosis. Most of the clients at Amberwing have disorders that will respond well to brief, intensive treatments.

Q: How should I submit a referral—in Epic, or as a call from a doctor or patient’s guardian?

A: To make a referral in Epic, type Appt with Psy in order entry, select Referral to Behavioral Health—and click. You can also call us at 218.355.2100, or have the parent or patient call us directly.

Q: What are the access hours?

A: 8:00 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday.

Q: After business hours, can patients go to Amberwing or should they go to the ER?

A: Please urge them to go to their closest emergency room for safety. They can also contact the crisis line at 218-623-1800.

Q: Is this strictly outpatient or is there overnight care?

A: Amberwing provides outpatient ambulatory services. The treatment day is 8 am to 3 pm, and the length of treatment is approximately three weeks, depending on medical necessity and program guidelines.
